Square Area Rugs

The benefit of having a square area rug is that its shape makes it versatile.  It can be used in most any contour room and can serve several functions. Rugs are decorative items and are often brought into a design equation in order to pull a collection together or to add that burst of energy a room needs to come alive.

First let us define what we will use the square area rugs for.  Will it be used to add warmth or texture to an area? If this is the case then a warm or neutral shade can bring depth and a feeling of comfort to the room. If this area is where a large amount of foot traffic will be expected then washable area rugs will be an appropriate type to use. Since that rug will be soiled faster than normal, finding a rug that is decorative and practical to clean is a necessity. Look through the carpet show rooms or online, you’ll realize that there are quite a variety of washable area rugs in the market and that practicality need not be compromised with a limited design palette or quality.

If one wants the rug to be a focal point in a room the color scheme or design on the rug should be daring, vivid or unique but still tasteful. Another function one may have for square area rugs is defining a group of furniture.  All the furniture for that area should fit into the rug completely or partially. For example if you have a studio type apartment but would want to assign a corner as the breakfast or coffee nook, placing a rug in that area with the coffee table and 2 chairs will identify the area as a breakfast nook even without walls. Utilizing rugs can effectively section off an area without physical barriers.

Lastly do not be scared to mix and match with square area rugs. In fact that is one of the good things with the shape of this rug, it can be mixed with almost any other shape of rug in the market today. Also keep in mind the size of the carpet you will be using in relevance to its function and the size of the room or area you will be using it in.
