Washable Area Rugs – Will It Make My House Elegant or Homey?

When we were all growing up we were raised with the idea that there are two kinds of households. The comfortable family kind with children and the sleek elegant kind reserved for those with no children.  Design has come a long way since then and of course all other aspects and home accessories as well. Furniture, rugs and accessories now cater to not just opposite ends of the spectrum but rather a blending or balance of both practicality and the polished look that any home owner would like for their houses to embody. The birth of washable area rugs is a prime example of this evolution in design.

It is fortunate that now manufacturers are more in tune with the needs of their consumers. The limited choices that we had for washable area rugs before cannot be compared to the sheer number of choices that are available to us today. The types not only differ in size or shapes such as square area rugs and circular ones but in designs, patterns, color palettes and even choice of designers. Whereas before the designs for washable area rugs were more staid or safe, manufacturers are investing in well known designers to develop items such as Kathy Ireland for Kathy Ireland rugs. Also designs run the whole range from contemporary to traditional so that any home will have the ability to add an area rug that will pull a room’s design together and make it more polished or infuse a bright splash of color and bring a conservative room to life.

These practical rugs now also come in different types of materials. When first introduced most washable area rugs were made from only synthetic materials. This is because synthetic fibers are practical because they do not stain easily and are easy to wash and dry. The feel of these purely synthetic rugs however left much to be desired. Now however with better techniques washable area rugs are a combination of natural and synthetic fibers. It can still give the natural soft feel and warmth that organic fibers exude but it is combined with synthetic fibers to make it more durable to washing and more resistant to stains. It can therefore keep its original structure and look for much longer than regular rugs and can be placed in high traffic areas of the home with no fear for it looking shabby in a very short amount of time.
